Kerry, the Conservative Party candidate, has lived in Malton since childhood and was educated at both Malton Primary and Secondary Schools. After leaving school she spent the next 20 years living and working in countries all over the world.
Kerry said, “I eventually realised that for me nowhere else was quite as special as Ryedale so, in 1996, I decided to move back to the area permanently and for several years ran my own business in the centre of Malton, The Workhouse Fitness Centre."
With her extensive experience, Kerry wants to stand up for local people, support small businesses, encourage sustainable tourism and protect the natural beauty of our countryside.
"I now work part time in the tourist industry and realise what an important role tourism plays in the local economy in Ryedale and how we need to safeguard the natural beauty of our area. I’m already on Malton Town Council and the Malton & Norton Area Partnership which I hope shows my commitment to serve the local people” she said.
She added, “I will ensure that any developments are what people need and want. Above all I will make sure that residents’concerns are heard above party politics.
“Along with my Conservative colleague, Cllr Michael Cleary, we will offer a united and strong voice for Derwent Ward.”
